2026 health savings account estimate
HSA contribution-room and paycheck planner
Estimate 2026 HSA contribution room from coverage type, eligible months, catch-up eligibility, employer deposits, prior contributions, and remaining pay periods.
Estimate a remaining HSA contribution target from your selected tax year, coverage type, eligible months, and age-based catch-up assumption. Check eligibility and your plan records separately; this tool does not determine whether you may contribute.
Enter the assumptions to estimate the remaining contribution room and a level amount per remaining paycheck.
How the estimate works
The selected annual limit is prorated by the eligible months you enter. If you select age 55 or older, the estimate adds a prorated $1,000 catch-up amount. It subtracts your contributions made so far, employer deposits already made, and expected remaining employer deposits, then divides any remaining room by your pay periods left. This is a planning estimate based on the entered coverage type applying to all eligible months.
For 2026, IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-19 sets the annual HSA contribution limits at $4,400 for self-only HDHP coverage and $8,750 for family coverage. IRS Publication 969 says the contribution limit depends on coverage, age, and the months eligible; it also explains that employer contributions count toward the limit and that eligible people age 55 or older at year-end may add $1,000. Sources checked November 3, 2026: IRS Internal Revenue Bulletin 2025-21, Revenue Procedure 2025-19 and IRS Publication 969.
Eligibility generally depends on HDHP coverage and other conditions on the first day of each month. Other health coverage, Medicare enrollment, dependent status, coverage changes, the last-month rule and its testing period, spousal arrangements, and other exceptions can change the allowed amount. This estimate assumes one selected coverage type, does not determine eligibility, and does not account for special cases. Check IRS Form 8889 instructions and your HSA records or consult a qualified tax professional before contributing. No tax savings are estimated.

How it works
Choose self-only or family HDHP coverage, enter eligible months and age-based catch-up eligibility, then include contributions already made and expected employer deposits. The estimate divides any remaining room by the pay periods you enter.
Good to know
Does this determine whether I am eligible to contribute to an HSA?
No. It uses the eligible months you enter and does not determine eligibility. Other coverage, Medicare, dependent status, coverage changes, and special rules can affect eligibility and contribution limits.
Are employer contributions included?
Yes. Enter employer contributions already made and expected for the rest of the year; both reduce the remaining modeled room. Check payroll and HSA records to avoid counting an amount twice.
Is the per-paycheck amount a tax recommendation?
No. It is the remaining modeled room divided evenly across the pay periods entered. It does not estimate tax savings or decide what contribution fits your circumstances.
