Vehicle financing estimate

Auto loan payment and total-interest calculator

Estimate an auto loan's monthly payment, amount financed, scheduled interest, and total payments from your entered vehicle price, down payment, taxes, fees, rate, and term.

Estimate a fixed-rate auto loan payment and scheduled interest from your entered vehicle price, down payment, taxes and fees, APR, and term. The result is a planning estimate, not a financing offer or a recommendation to borrow.

Enter the vehicle price, down payment, taxes and fees, rate, and term.

The estimate adds entered taxes and fees to the vehicle price, subtracts the down payment, then applies equal month-end payments using a constant monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12). It assumes the entered rate is the contract interest rate and excludes financed add-ons or other charges not entered, payment-date effects, and lender rounding. Compare the result with the amount financed, APR, finance charge, and total of payments in the lender’s disclosures.

Look beyond the monthly payment

A lower payment can come from a longer term and may increase the total interest paid. Compare the amount financed, rate, term, payment, and total cost across written offers. Taxes and fees vary; insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and repairs also affect vehicle ownership costs but are not part of this loan estimate.

To compare a 72-month loan with an 84-month loan using the same amount and rate, use the 72 vs. 84-month auto loan cost comparison.

If you already have a car loan, use the auto-loan refinance cost comparison to model an entered payoff quote and written refinance offer over a selected period.

To compare leasing with financing and selling at the end of the lease term, use the lease vs. buy car cost comparison.

How it works

Enter the vehicle price, down payment, taxes and fees to finance, fixed annual rate, and loan term. The calculator shows estimated amount financed, monthly principal and interest, total interest, and scheduled payments.

Good to know

How is the monthly payment estimated?

The calculator subtracts the down payment from vehicle price plus entered taxes and fees, then applies a fixed-rate amortization formula using the annual rate divided by 12 and equal month-end payments. A 0% rate divides the amount financed evenly across the term.

Does the payment include insurance or dealer add-ons?

No. It estimates principal and interest on the amount financed from the inputs. Insurance, registration, maintenance, and unentered add-ons or fees are excluded. The CFPB advises comparing auto loan offers by amount financed, APR, term, monthly payment, and total interest; the written disclosures control.

Will a longer term lower the total cost?

A longer term can reduce the monthly payment while increasing total interest. Compare both monthly payment and total cost, and use written lender terms. This calculator does not predict approval or an offered rate.
