Credit card offer comparison

Balance transfer cost calculator

Compare estimated credit-card payoff cost with a balance transfer fee, promotional APR and duration, later APR, and a shared monthly payment budget.

Compare paying your current card with a transfer offer using one monthly budget. Enter offer terms from a current written offer. Your values stay in this browser; this is a scenario estimate, not an approval or quote.

Enter your current card terms, monthly budget, and transfer offer terms.

The model charges the percentage fee once and adds it to the transferred balance. If the offer has a minimum or flat fee, convert that fee to a percentage of this balance before entering it. The model applies APR ÷ 12 each month, switches to the later APR after the entered number of promotional months, and applies each payment at month-end. It assumes the full balance can be transferred, the same payment every month, and no new purchases, other fees, missed payments, or rate changes. Actual offer terms and issuer balance calculations can differ.

Check the offer before comparing

Confirm the transfer fee, promotional end date, later APR, transfer deadline, eligible balances, credit limit, and how purchases are treated in the written terms. A promotional APR does not necessarily mean a fee-free transfer: the CFPB says a card company may charge a balance-transfer fee on a zero-percent offer. CFPB page last reviewed September 23, 2024.

How it works

Enter your current balance and APR, a monthly payment budget, and the transfer offer's fee and APR terms. The scenarios use the same monthly payment and stated monthly-interest assumptions.

Good to know

Does a zero-percent offer mean the transfer has no fee?

Not necessarily. The CFPB says a card company may charge a balance-transfer fee on a zero-percent rate offer. Check the written terms for the amount and how the fee is calculated. CFPB page last reviewed September 23, 2024.

What does this estimate include?

It adds the entered percentage fee to the transferred balance, applies each entered APR divided by 12 monthly, and switches from the promotional APR to the later APR after the number of months entered. It assumes the same month-end payment throughout, full transfer eligibility, and no other fees, new purchases, missed payments, or rate changes.

Does this tell me whether I will qualify or how much I can transfer?

No. Approval, available credit, eligible balances, promotional terms, and fees depend on the issuer and offer. Confirm the terms directly before acting.
