CD ladder maturity schedule calculator

Split a deposit into equal CD rungs with different terms and entered APYs, then review modeled balances at each maturity.

Plan an initial staggered CD schedule. The total deposit is divided as evenly as possible in whole cents among the rungs; each rung uses its own entered APY and matures at an interval you choose.

Enter the deposit, schedule, and APYs from current written offers to see each modeled maturity.

Method and example

The planner divides the entered total into the closest possible equal starting deposits in whole cents. Rung k matures after k × interval months. For entered effective annual percentage yield (APY), the modeled maturity value is starting deposit P × (1 + APY)months ÷ 12; modeled interest is that value minus P. It projects each CD only through its first maturity and does not add later reinvestment.

For example, $12,000 split across four rungs is $3,000 per CD. With a three-month interval, the initial maturity months are 3, 6, 9, and 12. The output calculates each balance separately using that rung's entered APY; these are values at different dates and should not be summed as if available at one time.

FDIC Truth in Savings guidance describes disclosures for time accounts including APY, compounding and crediting frequency, early-withdrawal penalties, and maturity or renewal terms. FDIC deposit insurance also depends on ownership category and the depositor's other deposits at the same insured institution. Review the written account disclosures and current FDIC coverage guidance before opening accounts. This educational estimate assumes equal starting allocations, fixed entered APYs, month-based terms, and no additions or withdrawals. It excludes day-count conventions, leap years, rounding, taxes, fees, early-withdrawal penalties, and future rates or renewal decisions. Actual bank disclosures control. Splitting one deposit into multiple CDs at the same institution does not by itself determine insurance coverage.

How it works

Enter the total amount, number of rungs, interval between maturities, and the APY from each CD offer. The planner allocates equal starting deposits and estimates each rung at its own maturity.

Good to know

What does this CD ladder planner calculate?

It divides the entered total deposit equally across the selected number of CDs. Each rung receives a term based on its position times the maturity interval, and grows at that rung's entered APY until its own maturity date.

Does it assume matured CDs are automatically reinvested?

No. It shows only the initial staggered maturity schedule. At each maturity, compare current offers and review the institution's renewal instructions and notice period.

Are deposits insured just because they are split into several CDs?

Not necessarily. FDIC insurance aggregation depends on ownership category and the depositor's other deposits at the same insured bank. Check the FDIC's current coverage guidance and your account ownership before relying on coverage.

Are these maturity amounts guaranteed?

No. They are estimates using the fixed APYs, equal allocation, month-based terms, and timing you enter. Actual disclosures govern compounding, day counts, crediting, fees, penalties, and maturity options.
